I recently re-read The Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haidt, and I believe there are three main takeaways for schools: In recent years, there’s been a noticeable shift in the way students engage with their education. The pervasive presence of personal devices, especially those equipped with social media, has introduced new challenges in the learning environment. Drawing insights from The Anxious Generation, it’s evident that schools must adapt to better support the well-being and growth of their students. 1. Reconsidering the Role of Personal Devices in Schools While technology has its merits, the integration…

Video transcript provided by https://www.temi.com/So I was a little bit hesitant to choose a one word for 2021. My word for 2020 was PAUSE and I feel like the universe took that a little bit too seriously. So, I was a little bit hesitant about choosing word; I wasn’t really feeling it. Then a colleague today pointed out that I really did use my word last year. She noted that I took it to heart and I really was conscious about pausing in situations to be less reactionary and more thoughtful in decision-making. So, I thought for a while about things that have been on my mind. I’ve been very…

  • Four Promises For Work Life In Quarantine

I knew that working from home during a quarantine wasn’t going to be easy; I think we all did. I did not, however, set myself up for success during the first two weeks and it landed me in a pretty bad place. I worked for too many hours and did not take care of myself. So, I am making four promises to myself as we start week three.

  • Schools Out… For Spring?

This is definitely not one of my more polished posts, but things are not feeling very polished right now. Along with every household in the nation (and world), we woke up feeling unsettled. Breaking a routine feels uncomfortable, even in the best circumstances. The loss of control sends our brains into survival mode. My oldest daughter, in particular, was feeling anxious. In an effort to settle her nerves, I wanted to give her back some control. So, we sat down together to create a family schedule for the next few weeks. Below is a quick video of the thought process behind our daily schedule. I am including a copy of…

  • #OneWord2020

My @oneword2019 was a failure, which is hard for me to admit. This made selecting my 2020 word more difficult. I wanted a word that served as a reflection of the past and offered an actionable path for the future.

  • Do The Next Right Thing, A Lesson For Educators

This holiday season Disney has graced us with another Frozen movie. So, our houses and classrooms are once again filled with carefully crafted, annoyingly catchy tunes. Perhaps most importantly, though is one particular theme woven into the storyline. In this video, I am unpacking a life lesson learned from a recent Disney movie and sharing three practical steps to make that magic happen.
